READING

Reason :
Battles were not interrupted, but halted to allow the games to take place. Look at the end of first paragraph “…... an any wars in progress were halted to allow the games to take place.”

Reason :
Elite in line 5 is closest in meaning to aristocracy, both of them have a same meaning as the most powerful members of a society or a privileged class.  In bahasa elite and aristocracy society class is called “bangsawan”.

STYLISTIC  PROBLEMS

1.      The defendant refused to answer the prosecutor’s questions…..

Reason :
Actually that sentences can stand alone, so just find a clause that will complete it with correctly.

Reason
That sentence need an object after subject (Mrs Walker) and verb (has returned), so we can eliminated option B. Object on first sentence option can found on A, C and D, but in option A is have a redundancy between return and back. Whereas on C originally owner is more like adjective. So the correct answer can be found on D.

Reason :

Correction :.

Problem :
Because ‘the dream process’ is perfectly ‘finish’,  so we should use the past perfect tense.

Correction :
A short time before her operation last month, Mrs.Carlyle  had dreamed  of her daughter who lives overseas.

Problem : That sentences is not parallelism.
Open and warm, both of them are adjective, so it’s must be following with adjective too.

Correction :
The atmosphere in Andalucia is open, warm, and welcome to all who have the good fortune to visit there.

Problem : That sentences is not parallelism.
Standing and singing, both of them are verb, so it’s must be following with verb too.

Correction :
Some of the people were standing in the street watching the parade, while others were singing songs.
